Welcome
Christian Games: From Board to Video and Everything in Between
Finding games for Christian youth and families to play can be very difficult. Some of the games that today’s children are playing for hours on end are not acceptable to the true Christian family but short of not allowing the children to play anything but hopscotch and tag, there has to be an alternative. And, there has to be something that can be played indoors when the weather outside is too nasty to even consider going out into. Fed up, Christian families loudly shouted their needs to the roof top and thankfully, there was some response.
First, there are board games that can be enjoyed by Christian families many that are perfect for children of all ages. Some families like to make a family game night where the entire family gathers around a board game and eats snacks and just relaxes. These nights are so important especially for families that are afraid their children are drifting away from them far too fast. There are children as young as seven and eight carrying around cell phones and lap top computers, chatting, texting and otherwise not paying attention to their family who are right in the same room for them. These children are bombarded by images and messages that are not in agreement with the values that the family wants to teach and it might seem harder and harder to keep those message front and center or to even know if they are being listened to at all?
There are other games that count as Christian games, including those that are specifically endorsed as Christian video games. These are family friendly and family approved video games that are not based on simply killing people but actually teach skills that are needed beyond the game itself, but in life as well. The problem with many of these games are that you find yourself staring at the back of your child’s head while they mindlessly kill, crush and destroy. There are games that can be family games that are not necessarily listed as Christian, but they certainly can bring everyone together without any of the violence and questionable story lines of the others.
Connecting with your children should be the main goal of the Christian games, teaching them the values that your family holds dear and helping to guide them to the Word before they get so old that they just cannot hear your words any more.
